Introduction A county seat of Florence County, the city was named after the eldest daughter of Gen. William Wallace Harllee, who brought the railroad to the town.
Florence is at the intersection of I-95 and I-20, almost halfway between New York and Miami. It is located 80 miles east from the state capital Columbia and 70 miles west from Myrtle Beach covering a total area of 5.9 km² (17.7 mi²) of which 45.8 km² (17.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.17%) is water.
The main waterway is Jeffries Creek is a tributary of the Great Pee Dee River that flows through the city of Florence. Florence is generally warm from April through September.
Temperate climate with winter temperatures rarely reaching below the freezing point.
