South Carolina : Administration

South Carolina is ranked 24th among the 50 states of U.S. and was admitted to the United States union in 1788 as the 8th state. South Carolina is state located in Deep South that borders Georgia to the south and North Carolina to the north. The executive branch of South Carolina consists of nine elected officers: Governor of South Carolina, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer, comptroller general, superintendent of education, commissioner of agriculture, and adjutant general. The governor of the state is the chief executive of the executive branch. The South Carolina General Assembly comprises of 46-members in Senate (upper house) and 124-members in House of Representatives (lower house). Senator’s server four-year term while the representatives server two-year term. The South Carolina Supreme court is the highest court in the state and consists of chief justice and associate judges. Several other courts like family courts which deals with family issues, and trial courts of general jurisdiction also exists. The trial court consists of civil and criminal division and is a superior court having limited jurisdiction over lower probate courts like municipal courts and magistrate courts. The South Carolina Court of Appeals is the state’s intermediate appellate court. The court of appeal is selected by the general assembly.
